The guide

How to choose pizza in Orlando

01Start with the crust style

The seven split cleanly by crust. Pizza Bruno and Antica Pizzeria & Market bake Neapolitan pies in wood-fired ovens, and Black Magic Pizza sells Neapolitan-style pies from a pickup window. SoDough Square makes Detroit-style squares in blue steel pans, Ziggie's and Lazy Moon work with thin crusts, and John & John's makes Philadelphia- and New York-influenced pies.

02Dough that takes days

Several of these shops say exactly how long their dough rests. SoDough Square ferments for 24 to 48 hours to get crisp, cheese-crusted frico edges, and both Lazy Moon and Antica use dough fermented for 72 hours. Antica pairs its dough with Caputo 00 flour, and it also makes its pasta in house.

03Where the ovens are

Six of the seven are inside Orlando, spread across Curry Ford West, Ivanhoe Village, Mills 50 and the Milk District, with two in SoDo a block apart on Michigan Street. Antica Pizzeria & Market is the suburban pick, on State Road 436 in Altamonte Springs, and it also runs a walk-up counter in the Great Southern Box Co. food hall.

04One veteran, many newcomers

Lazy Moon has sold slices since 2005, when it opened across from UCF. Most of the others are far younger: Pizza Bruno dates to 2016, Ziggie's opened in 2021 in the former Perla's Pizza space, SoDough Square followed in 2022, and Black Magic Pizza began serving from a window inside Whiskey Lou's Lounge in early 2023.
